Zinc Bromide is most commonly utilized in laboratories as Lewis Acid, as an electrolyte in zinc bromide battery, and for providing protection against radiation by filling in between two glass panels. It is known to have chemical formula ZnBr2 with molecular weight of 225.198 g/mol. This compound is soluble in water, alcohol, ether, & acetone and shows boiling point of about 697 degrees Celsius. It appears as white colored crystalline powder with strong hygroscopic property.
Zinc Bromide can be industrially produced by treatment of zinc with hydrobromic acid under controlled conditions. It has density of about 4.20 g/cm3 with melting point of 394 degrees C.
